What is a sunshine basket?

A sunshine basket is a gift basket filled with items that are intended to bring joy and happiness to the recipient. The basket is typically filled with bright and cheerful items, such as flowers, chocolates, snacks, candles, and other small gifts.

The idea behind the sunshine basket is to give someone a little boost of happiness and positivity, especially during difficult times or when they may be feeling down. It can be a thoughtful gift for a friend, family member, or loved one who could use a little pick-me-up.

Gifts that start with Y for adults

When it comes to finding gifts that start with Y, you might think that your options are limited. However, there are actually quite a few great gift ideas out there that start with this letter. Here are some things to keep in mind when searching for the perfect Y-themed gift:

Adidas “Y” Luxury Fashion Sneakers

For the fashion-forward person, a pair of Y-3 luxury fashion sneakers is sure to impress. These stylish kicks are designed by Yohji Yamamoto, one of the most influential designers of our time. They’re comfortable, versatile, and perfect for any occasion.

Sure, the high-end design and premium materials contribute to a higher price point, but your giftee is worth it, right?

Sauney does a nice job displaying several outfits that work well with Yeezy foam runner shoes (and what doesn’t).

Adidas Yeezy Shoes

Speaking of gifts starting with the letter Y, Adidas also features their “Yeezy” line. From the Yeezy Mist product description, “The adidas Yeezy Foam Runner “Mist” is a versatile, earth tone colorway of Kanye West’s casual slip-on shoe. Reminiscent of the Yeezy Foam Runner’s “Ochre” colorway from August 2021, the “Mist” also features a monochromatic brown appearance. The shoe’s lightweight EVA foam and harvested algae body is designed in a wearable “Mist” hue that can be worn with virtually anything. Release date: March 11, 2022.”

The Yeezy foam sliders/runners are very futuristic-looking, going against the norms of standard shoes appearances. Are you looking for a Yeezy foam runner doop? No worries, there are plenty of companies ready to sell you a look-alike.

What to wear with foam runners

Since foam runners are so different-looking, people are a little stumped on what clothes to pair with them. Who doesn’t fall in love with a cool-looking pair of shoes, only to fail at pulling off the complete outfit?

For a casual look, you can wear foam runners with a pair of shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or tank top. They can also be paired with jeans and a sweatshirt or hoodie for a laid-back yet stylish look. If you want to dress them up a bit, you can try wearing them with a midi skirt or a sundress. Overall, foam runners are versatile and can be worn with a range of casual and semi-casual outfits.

Yak gifts

Before we go down the Highland cow path, no, a Highland cow is not a yak. Highland cows, also known as Scottish Highland cattle, are a breed of domestic cattle that originated in Scotland. They are known for their coat of long, shaggy hair and distinctive horns. Highland cows are used for both meat and dairy production.

Yaks, on the other hand, are a type of bovine that are native to the Himalayan region of Central Asia. They are known for their long, shaggy hair on the lower body and are often used for their milk, meat, and fiber. Yaks are adapted to living in high-altitude environments and are often used as pack animals in mountainous areas.

While Highland cows and yaks share some similarities in their appearance, they are two distinct types of bovine and are not closely related.

Yaks and Highland Cows are often confused, but are different breeds. Fun fact,

“Yaks grunt and, unlike cattle, are not known to produce the characteristic bovine lowing (mooing) sound.”

Exquisite gifts made from yak hair

There are a variety of gifts that can be made from yaks, especially in areas where yaks are raised and used for their milk, meat, and fiber. Here are a few examples:

  1. Yak wool products: Yak wool is known for its softness, warmth, and durability, and is used to make a variety of products, including blankets, scarves, hats, and sweaters.
  2. Yak milk products: Yak milk is used to make a variety of dairy products, including cheese, butter, and yogurt. These products can make unique and tasty gifts for foodies.
  3. Yak bone and horn products: The bones and horns of yaks can be used to make a variety of decorative and functional items, including jewelry, buttons, and utensils.
  4. Yak leather products: Yak leather is known for its durability and is used to make a variety of products, including bags, belts, and shoes.
  5. Yak meat products: Yak meat is lean and flavorful, and is used in a variety of dishes in areas where yaks are raised. Yak meat products can make unique and tasty gifts for foodies.

For ethical luxury yak gift products, look to Norlha. They will ship internationally. Norlha is the Tibetan Plateau’s first yak khullu atelier (workshop or studio for artists). They opened their doors in 2007 in Ritoma Village, a nomad settlement comprising 230 families, 6000 yaks and 20,000 sheep. They produce products with yak khullu. According to Norlha, “Yak khullu is a the soft under down that the yak grows in the fall and sheds in late spring. Soft and extremely warm, it insulates the yak from the extreme cold.”

Scarves and vests are a few examples of the many gifts that can be made from yaks. The specific types of gifts available will depend on the region and culture in which the yaks are raised.

Yak cheese and meat products are harder to find. There are some farmers in Minnesota that have taken an interest in raising and selling yak meat. Sassy Yak Farm is one such midwest operation. Clear Spring Farm Yaks is another Minnesota farm that boasts it has the largest yak farm in the United States.

Clear Springs raises the yak for fiber products (yarn, roving, etc). Yak fiber is similar to cashmere. The fiber from yak is super soft, hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking and lanolin-free. They also raise the yak for the meat, which is comparable to bison: slightly sweet, without any gamey flavor. In addition, Yak meat is a dark red meat, high in protein, low in saturated fat, low in cholesterol, yet high in omega fats.

Yak cheese

My success at locating yak cheese was less successful. After reading about a Wisconsin couple attempting to make yak cheese, I realized how difficult it is to obtain. Yaks produce only half a gallon of milk daily as compared to the 8-10 gallons produced by a dairy cow. In addition, the cheese process takes a long time. That is why American farmers growing yak focus on meat and yak fiber products to sell.

Yak horns

Yak horns are used for a variety of purposes, depending on the culture and region in which they are found. Here are a few examples:

  1. Decorative items: Yak horns are often used to make decorative items, such as wall hangings, lamps, and other home decor items. The horns can be polished and carved to create intricate designs and patterns.
  2. Personal use items. Smith & Norbu make luxury eyeglasses from buffalo and yak horns.
A Tibetan yak shoe horn made from natural yak horns is a more budget-friendly yak horn product found on Amazon.
  3. Musical instruments: In some cultures, yak horns are used to make musical instruments, such as horns and trumpets. The horns can be shaped and tuned to create a unique sound.
  4. Utensils: Yak horns can be used to make a variety of utensils, such as spoons, forks, and bowls. The horns are durable and can be shaped and carved to create functional and attractive utensils.
  5. Ritual objects: In some cultures, yak horns are used as ritual objects in religious ceremonies and other cultural practices. The horns may be decorated with symbols and other designs that have special significance.
  6. Traditional medicine: In some traditional medicine practices, yak horns are used to make remedies for various ailments. The horns may be ground up and used in teas, ointments, and other preparations.

These are just a few examples of the many uses for yak horns. The specific uses will depend on the culture and region in which they are found.

Yarn bowl

Yarn bowl, you say? Yarn bowls are fantastic little works of art that do one thing well: contain and distribute yarn. If you friend loves to knit or crochet, they will enjoy the novelty and practical use of a yarn bowl. If you were very creative, perhaps you can find other uses for yarn bowls, because they really are spectacular.

Handmade wooden yarn bowls are beautiful, with unique designs. Although wooden yarn bowls seems to be the favorite, you can also select metal yarn bowls. There are even ceramic novelty yarn bowls, like a unicorn yarn bowl, if that trips your yarn trigger.

Yard gifts

If your giftee is a backyard enthusiast, there are many ways to add to their backyard enjoyment.

Everyone enjoys visiting a backyard that is loved and cared for. Backyards are an expression of the owner. If they are an avid gardener, they may delight in a new plant to add to their landscape, or a beautiful garden ornament.

Yellow gold jewelry

What is yellow gold? According to the John Atencio fine jewelry website, “Yellow gold is made by blending pure gold with copper, silver and zinc. This combination retains the purest color of all the available gold colors. It’s also the most hypoallergenic and gives off a noticeable shine when contrasted with darker and olive skin tones.”

The site also goes on to add that yellow gold requires the least amount of maintenance and has become the primary material of jewelry makers throughout the U.S.

All of this points to wearing yellow gold is good for you. Ever pick up and read a package of jewelry, and it’s labeled “hypoallergenic”? It might not be yellow gold, but that means that earring posts are not going to turn your ear green and if you have fresh body piercings, they are going to heal properly.

I had a family member struggle with the inability to heal properly from an ear piercing. When weeks go by and no progress is made, that means you are having an allergic reaction to the jewelry metal. You can even have healthy piercings, and non-healthy jewelry can stir up problems – so keep your jewelry healthy (particulary in the yellow gold range!).

Look for 14K yellow-filled gold, or 14K plated gold for the same healthy metal benefits.
